Details are key to any interior and can make the world of difference to an otherwise dull space (especially if you are renting and can't put anything on the walls!) Collecting pieces with different materials and textures adds character, intrigue and warmth and you can easily add several colours into a neutral room through curated accessories. I've rounded up some cool pieces that I've come across whilst planning my latest styling projects that are guaranteed to elevate any home.

I'm totally obsessed with candlesticks right now. Possibly a reaction to the over-use of Diptyque, Jo Malone etc on a stack of coffee table books in a lot of those popular Pinterest-able styled interior shots you see everywhere. Maybe it's the grandiose extravagance of a traditional candelabra but I also like contemporary sleek designs in matt black and concrete. There are so many great ones around - try West Elm (the sculpted brass candlesticks are spot on), Habitat and Trouva too.

Round rugs have been firmly on my radar for the last couple of years as a fun alternative to your usual rectangle. I love this grey one from House Curious. I've also got a penchant for more traditional patterned and printed rugs and have had my eye on this beautiful French Connection one for about a year! I'm loving the tones of these Ferm Living knitted cushions below and add some flirty boudoir vibes with a fringed or Dalmatian print H&M cover.

Interesting objects and vases are the perfect easy way to create vignettes around your space and change it up frequently; on shelves, mantelpieces, bedside tables, coffee tables, side tables, dining tables, console tables... The floor even! Mixing styles, materials and shapes is key and no need to put flowers in all of them (or any of them). I do love ceramic white sculptural trios to tone down a busy, cluttered space however but add some interest in sparse neutral schemes with a mixture of coloured glass, stone and bold jewel colours.

Forget the boring DIY shop hooks- it's finishing touches like these brass and lapis lazuli ones from Ferm Living that make your home feel individual. Brass and concrete touches will always elevate your space and will work with almost any vibe you already have going on- just look for interesting details like the turned-down edge of this glamorous bowl. Statement mirrors can act like a piece of artwork and also help brighten and lighten your space and give the impression of more depth. I love this neon-detailed one which comes in a few different colours from Petite Friture.

Every home needs a tray, be it marble, metal or concrete- they are never-endingly practical, floating from room to room holding candles (the Diptyque type), a collection of objet d'art, succulents or even your post.

Don't forget about the kitchen when it comes to stylish and unexpected details. Swapping in some on-trend brass or matt black cutlery will keep your home updated and interesting and you can make tea-time the opposite of quaint with these marble teacups from Bethan Gray.  The Ripple champagne saucers and carafe in delicate corrugated glass by Ferm Living are high on my wish list to give that essential Great Gatsby vibe that every dining table needs.
